Chuck Close
This guy has to be one of my favourite painters. He is a part of the Super/Hyper/Photo Realist movement of the 1960/70's in NY. He uses only two table spoons of black oil paint to create these MASSIVE scale images drawn from photographs.
He explores the difference between the eye and the camera. Some of his most recent paintings include Kate Moss and Brad Pitt. In his earlier works he uses his friends as subjects.
Now paralyzed he still continues to paint these amazing works...
